Masks
I smashed each future that could never be Into sparkling pieces of glittery debris And with epoxy rebuilt my face Everything new in a different place. A mask for every new place Mosaics, remnants of lost faith - Forgiveness forgone, friends erased; New name, new place, new faith In the image of the mask that takes my place. Only fear has the courage To smash what has not yet begun; And only hope can find shards that match A brighter sun, the next something The next place, the next hope, the next face Re-begun. Smashing and refashioning each future, Still I sing, the bloodied songs of me Cut by the shards I cannot share, Cut by the shards I could not bear, I weave my own myths of being seen. Masking and unmasking this Empty being. ©2024 @StaceyBattlestheWorld
