The Arrival
Standing, outside of the Closet. “Sorry I'm late, There was traffic." Embarrassed, I add, "I took two other roads Before finding this one." I motion behind me at three small bundles with mittens and hats. "I've brought baggage." The room divides. "Late indeed," One preens, and peers, "What are we to do with these?" "Well anyone who's anyone," I begin to say, but they cut me off. "I'll try!" One shouts, and another nods; I cringe. "Please don't," I apologize, "I will by myself, I mean I can -" "We all will!" The leader declares. "We all will what?" I hesitate. "We will raise you all, all four of you!" It was agreed upon there. "That's too much!" I cry. "Oh nonsense." "Yes?" "Yes. Quite so." "This is where you've come to be you, And we have all pledged to let you." I look around and their eyes follow me Each deeper and more wondrous than the last. "Is this heaven?" I ask. "You're on your way," a soft voice interjects, "But this is just where you rest." A small harmony of voices agreed, and so it was - The sisterhood accepted me. ©2024 @StaceyBattlestheWorld
