The Cost
Alone but never alone, I walk this thin gray line. Alone but never alone, I walk this path I chose. There is bleak but there comes still bleaker - That is hope at its brightest, when There are tears in my eyes. Always, when I rise, there are tears in my eyes. But it’s better to blur the lines, than bow to lies. I will hide you in the folds of my life; I will bring you into myself and offer you refuge. I will pay prices for you - your freedom costs Less than I thought a life should be worth. Have a seat, take a drink, my wells were born full. There are debts to be paid, but my cupboard is full. Let me ladle out a small piece of this melting pot to you. If it burns your tongue, it’s only because The politicians let it boil too hot, for too long. I have only recently discovered me; Briefly, wondrously, I explored that luxury. But then the raids began again. I have not turned so far inward that I could ever turn my back on a friend. This line is where I stand. Neither here nor there, A woman unafraid to cross Into No Man’s Land. I will feed you today, and I will feed you tomorrow - I will let you find false hope in me, That there could exist any help in this place. Together, we will make a secret handshake. ©2025 @StaceyBattlestheWorld
